Our Physicians
Dr. Altamura is a board certified urologist, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has a masters degree in clinical nutrition from Columbia University. He trained in urology at the Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has been in private practice for the last 23 years. He brings to his urology practice not only his extensive experience in conventional treatment of urological diseases but also his keen interest and training in complementary and alternative treatments which he applies to both the prevention and treatment of urological diseases. In addition, Dr. Altamura does procedures in his office that were previously done in a hospital setting. As an example, ultrasound guided biopsies of the prostate are done in the office using a local anesthetic making this procedure convenient, private and comfortable. Other procedures such as vasectomies and cystoscopies are also done in the office using either a local anesthetic or with an anesthesiologist administering intravenous sedation depending on the patient's needs. For men with prostate cancer who have failed radiation therapy, Dr. Altamura has been doing a surgical procedure in the last 3 years called cryoablation (freezing) of the prostate, which is the only remaining option for curing prostate cancer in these patients. Prior to this time, after radiation failure, the only other treatment was hormonal therapy, which is not curative. Finally, for women with urinary incontinence, especially those who have failed other procedures and those who have had previous pelvic surgery or pelvic radiation, Dr. Altamura now offers a new minimally invasive, ambulatory surgery procedure called the Monarc™ sling procedure. To learn more about cryoablation for the treatment of prostate cancer and the Monarc procedure for the treatment of urinary incontinence, please call Dr. Altamura at 914.737.8675. David S. Breslin, M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Breslin has been in private practice in the Hudson Valley region for 10 years, and sees patients with urologic problems who live anywhere between Dutchess County and Lower Westchester. He is a board certified urologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Breslin graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, and also completed his two-year general surgery requirement there, and at the adjoining Mount Sinai Hospital, before matriculating at Lenox Hill Hospital, for his four-year residency in urology. Desiring additional training in his area of special interest, he completed a one-year fellowship in the sub-specialty of female urology, urodynamics, and voiding dysfunction, at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, a major affiliate of Harvard Medical School. While a fellow at Harvard, and under the direction of Dr. David Staskin, he authored or co-authored multiple journal articles and chapters on various topics related to incontinence and bladder control issues. Following his fellowship, he joined Premier Urological Care and the practice of Dr. Michael Altamura. In his practice, Dr. Breslin sees a wide variety of patients, male and female, with the following problems:
Dr. Breslin performs many procedures such as prostate biopsies, cystoscopies ,and vasectomies, previously performed only in the hospital, in the comfortable setting of his office, with local anesthesia or under the care of a board-certified anesthesiologist. For women with urinary stress incontinence, Dr. Breslin performs a minimally invasive urethral sling procedure, known as a Monarc sling, which usually does not require an overnight stay. For men with prostate cancer who have failed radiation therapy, or who don't want surgery or radiation, Dr. Breslin performs cryoablation (freezing) of the prostate. Both of these procedures, as well as many others performed at Premier Urological, are at the cutting edge of urology. Dr. Breslin is also an assistant clinical professor of urology at New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center, where he specializes in female urology, incontinence, and urodynamic testing of patients with a wide range of bladder and urination problems. Please feel free to call Dr. Breslin's office at 914.737.8675 to schedule an appointment to discuss any urological issue. He is warm, friendly, and very approachable, and enjoys explaining these problems in an easy to understand manner.
