Urologic Conditions Treated

As urologists, our physicians diagnose and treat conditions of the urinary system (kidneys, ureter, bladder, urethra), and the male reproductive system. Dr. Michael Altamura applies both conventional treatment of urological diseases and also his extensive knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine which he applies to both the prevention and treatment of urological diseases.

Our urologists have special interest in the treatment of the following urologic conditions:

In-Office Procedures

Some procedures may be performed in our office instead of a hospital setting making these procedures convenient, private and comfortable. Use of local anesthetic or an anesthesiologist administering intravenous sedation are available depending on the procedure and the patient's needs.

• Cystoscopy
• Needle biopsy for diagnosing prostate cancer
• Ultrasound guided biopsies of the prostate, using a local anesthetic
• Vasectomy for voluntary sterilization

Advanced Treatment Options Available

Our physicians are able to offer advanced treatment options including minimally invasive procedures and specialized surgeries when other measures have failed.

• Cryoablation (freezing) of the prostate
  A surgical option when radiation has failed to cure prostate cancer

• Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
  A miminally invasive procedure for kidney stone removal

• Monarc™ sling procedure
  Minimally invasive, ambulatory surgery procedure for women with stress urinary incontinence, especially those who have failed other procedures and those who have had previous pelvic surgery or pelvic radiation
